Clinical Care at The Sherkow Center

If you’re interested in having your child evaluated at The Sherkow Center, your first step is to contact us by calling:

(212) 722-0090

Or via email: thesherkowcenter@gmail.com.

You’ll speak with a clinical coordinator who will guide you through our intake process and answer any initial questions about our services and approach.

Step 1: Initial Parent Consultation

Your first meeting is a parent-only session. This lets us gather a detailed developmental, medical, educational, and family history—and understand your child’s environment and challenges—before we meet them.

We’ll explore:

  • What concerns you about your child’s behavior, development, or relationships?

  • Has your child ever received prior therapy, testing, or interventions?

  • What is your child’s school experience like?

  • How does your child relate to peers, family members, and caregivers?

  • What are your family’s goals for therapy?

Step 2: Comprehensive Evaluation

Based on that consultation, your child will be matched with a clinician for observation and assessment. Depending on their needs, this may include:

  • Autism-specific evaluations (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R)

  • Developmental assessments

  • Emotional and relational mapping across home, school, and peer settings

Step 3: Treatment Planning and Services

After evaluation, your child’s clinician will recommend an individualized treatment plan, which may include one or more of our specialized services:

  • Parent-Infant Play Therapy to strengthen early bonds and emotional development

  • Individual Psychodynamic Therapy to support emotional, cognitive, and social growth

  • Spark PsychoSocial Skills Program (our flagship mentoring group for social skills and relationship-building)

  • Parent Support Groups for guidance, community, and shared resources

  • Medication Assessment & Management, when needed

  • In-School Observations and Consultations to support academic and social success

  • Auxiliary Services, including home-based play support and transportation assistance

Your clinical coordinator will remain your point of contact throughout, helping with scheduling, questions, and guiding your family’s journey.
